Steve "Patch" Johnson & Kayla Brady

Steve's troubled past almost got the better of this couple, but they fought against the odds and finally made their way to each other. Steve "Patch" Johnson was originally hired to scare Kayla back to Salem. His plan succeeded, but he found himself falling in love with her. Kayla was the first person that Steve allowed to see under the eye-patch he always wore. Their love survived despite Kayla being raped by Steve's older brother, Jack, and an explosion that left her deaf and mute. She regained her hearing and her voice in time to hear and say these beautiful wedding vows:

Steve:
I'm standing here and I still can't believe that I deserve you. I wouldn't be the man I am right now if it wasn't for you. I thought I was brave, but I found out that it takes more courage to open up to another person. I thought I was strong, but you showed me that it takes more strength to let people see your feelings. Kayla:
When I was a little girl, I dreamed of loving a man who was brave and strong and true; and a romantic wedding on the water surrounded by the people I love most. I never told that secret dream to anyone, but some how you found out. You gave me that dream. You made it come true. There's just one thing that's different; it's far more wonderful than I ever imagined. I dreamed of being in love, I never dreamed of sharing my soul. I dreamed of sharing my thoughts, but I never dreamed that someone could hear me without words. In my darkest trouble, in my coldest silence; I looked for you and you were there. I am yours forever. Unfortunately for the happy couple, a year into their marriage, Steve's presumed dead wife, Marina, turned up alive! Marina was murdered and Kayla was arrested for it. During the trial, Kayla gave birth to their daughter, Stephanie Kay. Kayla was found guilty and sent to prison. Meanwhile, Stephanie was kidnapped by her nanny. Kayla escaped, and she along with Steve and Bo, found Stephanie in Australia. All charges against Kayla were dropped when it was discovered that Isabella had killed her sister, Marina, in self-defense.

Steve and Kayla remarried, but it wasn't long before tragedy met up with this couple again. Steve was injured in an explosion meant for Bo. He was on the road to recovery when someone slipped something into his IV. Steve flat-lined and is presumed dead - someone mysteriously switched the coffins... Kayla, after a failed relationship with Shane Donovan, took Stephanie Kay and moved to California.
